Stenger Vote Leaves Seniors out in the Cold

As St. Louis County Executive, Charlie Dooley has worked hard to improve the living conditions of seniors who have given so much to our communities. Under Charlie Dooley's leadership the county has been named an AARP Age Friendly Community, the only one in the state and one of only 30 in the nation.

But Steve Stenger, in yet another attempt to score political points and further his personal agenda, turned his back on our elderly neighbors. Stenger originally supported a much needed senior housing development in Oakville, but upon hearing the concerns of a few outspoken residents, he filed a resolution to revoke the development's zoning. As the Post-Dispatch put it, Stenger "was for it before he was against it." Once again, Steve Stenger would rather do what is politically expedient than what is right.

Click below to view our latest ad:

The aging of St. Louis County's population is a trend that will impact all of us. By 2030, 20% of Americans will be over age 65, and our nation will face a severe shortage of appropriate housing and services to meet their needs if we do not act. In St. Louis County, the Baby Boomers combined with seniors over the age of 65 represent nearly half of our local population.

Charlie Dooley has shown a willingness to make the tough decisions to do what is right for our elderly neighbors and friends and make St. Louis County a community where seniors can age comfortably and with dignity. Steve Stenger has shown a willingness to do anything for his political and personal gain, even turning his back on seniors.

If this is how Stenger votes on the council, what will he eliminate as County Executive?

Shocking.

Shocking.

That’s the only way to describe what Steve Stenger says about the victims of human sex-trafficking.  As an attorney, Stenger defended a notorious sex slave kingpin at the center of a nationwide sex trafficking ring.  Some of the girls forced into prostitution were as young as 13.  When describing the plight of the victims, Stenger said it was “a lifestyle they chose.”

Steve Stenger has shown that he will say or do anything to get elected, including running an irresponsible and reckless ad about a women’s shelter.  Now we learn that he’s painted victims of sex trafficking in the most deplorable way.  It’s clear that Steve Stenger had little regard for or understanding of their circumstances. It's one thing to say you were doing your job, but this goes too far.  How can we trust Steve Stenger now?

Human trafficking is not a lifestyle a woman chooses.  It’s a real and serious issue.  Charlie Dooley recognizes that and has been working to address it.   He’s committed to securing hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional funding in the upcoming budget to support expanded investigation and prosecution of sex traffickers.

Stenger Misleads Voters Again

Steve Stenger continues his history of misleading voters and fabricating stories for his political gain.  You may have heard his claims about the cost of the County Courthouse.  If he had attended the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 8, 2012, with the rest of the County Council members, he would have understood that preliminary construction budgets indicated that more money was needed to build the courthouse.  Although he’s now critical of the increased construction budget, he didn’t speak up against the additional funds.  Which is it, Steve…are you for it or against it?  Once again, it’s hard to tell.

For more information, please visit www.stengerssecret.com.

Planned Parenthood endorses Charlie!

The St. Louis Chapter of Planned Parenthood has continued its long-time practice of supporting Charlie A. Dooley by once again endorsing his re-election as County Executive.

Unlike his opponent, a self-described “pro-life conservative” who has historically opposed a woman's right to choose and has campaigned against the very issues that Planned Parenthood stands for, Charlie Dooley has a history of standing up for a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her body.

Charlie is proud to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood.  The organization has done important work in St. Louis and its endorsement explicitly recognizes Charlie's long-standing support for the organization's goals.

Charlie Dooley shares our Democratic values and he has championed issues important to women throughout his tenure, such as providing county-funded health clinics that improve women’s access to life saving cancer screenings.  He has expanded access to mammograms and he is currently working hard to combat sex trafficking in the St. Louis region.

Five St. Louis Mayors Endorse Charlie Dooley for County Executive!

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, along with former Mayors James Conway, Vince Schoemehl, Freeman Bosley, Jr., and Clarence Harmon, expressed their support for Charlie Dooley’s re-election Monday evening at a reception they hosted in his honor.

In a joint statement the mayors said, “For ten years, Charlie Dooley has been providing the leadership St. Louis County needs. He has been making the difficult decisions during tough economic times to keep the St. Louis region on track to attract jobs and provide community service and leadership to assure the economic growth needed to create a better future for the citizens of St. Louis County and the entire region.”

The endorsement from the five St. Louis mayors is the latest in a list that includes Congressman Lacy Clay, former Congressman Bill Clay, Sr., United Auto Workers, Coalition of Black Trade Unions, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 655, International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Union, Service Employees International Union, and the Democratic Township Committees of Florissant, Normandy, Airport, and Creve Coeur.

Charlie Dooley Campaign Ads Hit the Airways!

The Democratic primary is less than 7 weeks away, and we need your support to see us through to the finish line! We have just rolled out our first campaign ads, and we want you, our loyal supporters, to be among the first to see them!

Listen to Stephanie Dooley as she describes some of her father’s achievements including expanded access to healthcare, the #1 job growth in the state, and the lowest crime in 43 years.

Steve Stenger has released just 6 partial tax returns to Dooley’s 18 full returns, and Stenger still will not explain why he refuses to release the more informative state taxes or supporting schedules. Stenger, an accountant, who likely practiced law in both the City and the County, also failed to release any city tax returns.

What is Steve Stenger hiding?

Team Dooley has some good news to share with you!

TEAM DOOLEY HAS SOME GOOD NEWS TO SHARE WITH YOU!

Because of loyal supporters like you, a recent survey conducted by Hamilton Campaigns shows that St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley is well positioned for victory!

Over 60% of Democratic Primary voters say Charlie Dooley is “a strong leader,” who “puts the people of St. Louis County first,” “gets things done,” and “has made St. Louis County safer.”  Charlie currently has a +37 percentage point lead over his opponents in the initial vote preference for County Executive, and he leads in every geographic region of the county and with every demographic subgroup in the Democratic Primary.

Charlie Dooley has a distinguished record of accomplishments including bringing more than 5,000 jobs to the region in the last year alone, gaining the highest bond rating in the state, and reducing St. Louis County’s crime rate to a forty-year low.

But, Charlie Dooley takes nothing for granted and knows that he must continue to earn your support.  When he is asked why he’s running for re-election, Charlie says “I have more to do, and I want to keep the momentum going.”

We’ve made significant progress under the strong, steady leadership of Charlie Dooley – but we can’t stop now. We need your help to make sure he wins on August 5th so we can continue moving St. Louis County forward. Please consider making a $25, $50, or $100 contribution today. From all of us here at Team Dooley, thank you again for all that you do.

Meet Team Dooley!

Meet Team Dooley!

Team Dooley is made from real, local, spirited individuals who care deeply about the future of St. Louis County. We connect with new people in St. Louis County every day who support Charlie Dooley as County Executive!

Meet Vietnam veteran Roosevelt Smith, a Team Dooley all-star volunteer and grandfather of two who served in the Army right before Charlie. Roosevelt has volunteered over three weeks with Team Dooley by knocking on doors and calling County residents. One of his favorite things to do is meet new people and spread the word of why Charlie is the right person for the job.

“I enjoy meeting people and talking about Charlie’s County Council experience and how he became an example of community leadership,” says Roosevelt. “I also admire his leadership abilities from his military experience, and how he has transitioned those experiences into caring for his community. Being in Vietnam definitely changes your perspective and appreciation of what we have here and how you relate to other people.” Because of the similarities between Charlie and Roosevelt’s military service he considers it an honor to volunteer with the Team.

Roosevelt is 70 years-young and lives in unincorporated St. Louis County.

Charlie’s commitment to investing in St. Louis County’s future is reflected in the people who have joined his campaign. Meet Adela Slovakova, a 24 year-old immigrant from Jesenik in the Czech Republic. Adela came to the United States five years ago on a tennis scholarship to Lindenwood University where she double majored in political science and international relations.

When Adela first came to St. Louis, she quickly developed a passion for improving the lives of people who are in circumstances similar to hers. She joined Governor Jay Nixon’s campaign and interned in the field, learning how immigrants can improve the communities in which they live. When Adela learned of Charlie’s Mosaic Project to make St. Louis a thriving place for immigrants to live and work, she immediately applied to work on the campaign and be a liaison to the immigrant community.

“Back home in Czech, people don’t really care about politics” says Adela. “People here are more open and friendlier. I consider myself to be very lucky to meet so many people who have helped and motivated me to achieve my goals.”

Adela is staying in St. Louis to pursue her MBA from Lindenwood University.

Meet Chelsey Oliver, a young and passionate community advocate who joined Team Dooley back in March of this year. Born and raised in St. Louis County, Chelsey represents the diversity of individuals who are working to re-elect Charlie as County Executive.

Chelsey comes from the industrial sector as her career is rooted in research and development in the sciences. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Maryville University and her Master of Arts in Patent Agency from Webster University. Chelsey currently works in the biochemical industry and devotes all her free time to helping Team Dooley. Her favorite aspect of the campaign is to recruit volunteers to join the Team to re-elect Charlie.

“You’re coming to their neighborhood and engaging them in their own homes,” says Chelsey. “That’s the real reward… talking to people who care about their community and are willing to take action to invest in its future.”

Chelsey is a Team Dooley community organizer who deeply believes in Charlie’s vision of St. Louis County’s future. She is 31 years old and worked to re-elect President Obama in 2012.

We Have the Momentum!

DOOLEY IS ONLY COUNTY EXECUTIVE CANDIDATE TO RAISE OVER $1 MILLION THIS ELECTION CYCLE

  • Dooley: $607K cash on hand, $244K in contributions for first quarter
  • Raised over $1M this election cycle
  • 0 debt.  76% of contributions were $500 or less
  • Dooley leads cash race when Stenger debt and self-funding factored in

As we enter the final full quarter before the primary election, Dooley for St. Louis County is in a strong position, and Charlie Dooley is the only candidate for County Executive to have raised more than $1M this election cycle.

“We are confident that we will have the resources necessary to communicate Charlie Dooley’s values and outstanding record of accomplishments”, said Communications Director Linda Goldstein.  “Charlie has a proven track record of supporting women’s health initiatives, and he supports a woman’s right to choose.  With 20,000 jobs created in the last 4 years, the highest bond rating in the state, and the lowest crime in 40 years, it’s not surprising that we have such a strong base of financial support.”

More than 75% of the Dooley contributions have been $500 or less and one-third of them $100 or less.  It is important to keep in mind that our opponent is over $200,000 in debt.  We are proud of our broad base of support, which includes the labor and business communities.

Dooley for St. Louis County currently has $607,000 cash on hand.  One of his Democratic primary opponents, Steve Stenger, has had the luxury of giving himself several hundred thousand dollars, and his campaign is over $200,000 in debt. According to his own report, Stenger has not surpassed the $1M mark as his press release claims.
